‘Mathi’ tells the story of ‘Mathi Rafeeq’, a village fish seller. The play unwraps the goodness and harmony of a time. Village life which is becoming alien to the new generation, political views etc become the subjects of the play.  ‘Mathi’ the cheaply available fish turns a metaphor here. The deterioration of Art and cultural organisations remains the focus of the play.
